How to Await a Confirmation for a Relationship on Facebook

Print this articleIn a world where many people share their personal lives on Facebook, some may ask: is a relationship really official if it is not posted on your Facebook profile? On Facebook, users have many options for listing their relationship status, including "Married," "It's complicated," "In an open relationship," and "In a domestic partnership." A user can list the name of her special someone so all her Facebook friends know she is taken and off the dating market.

Sign in to Facebook and click on your profile to view it.

Select "Edit Profile" in the list of options underneath your name at the top of the screen.

Click "Friends and Family" from the options on the left side of the screen.

Select your relationship status from the drop-down menu to the right of "Relationship Status." In the blank underneath the status, enter the name of the person you are in a relationship with. A relationship request will be sent to that person. When that person has accepted your request, you will receive a notification in your notification list, which is indicated by a globe icon and is located to the left of the search box at the top of every screen. The person's name will also appear on your profile next to your relationship status.
